Happy Father's Day!

Image
Hello cupcakes! The weather is beautiful today! I have been inactive lately, but nonetheless I will share the pictures of delicious food I ate. I went to Washington D.C. and Annandale, Virginia. Some food are from fancy catering companies and others are from restaurants. This is coffee-flavored and strawberry shaved ice with sweet toppings. I loved it! You can buy this at the "Block" located in  4221 John Marr Dr, Annandale, VA 22003 Next I went to a Korean BBQ restaurant. It's called Kogiya Korean BBQ located in 4220-A Annandale Rd, Annandale, VA 22003 I loved the food and the sauces. The Korean restaurant gave a wide variety of choices and plenty of food for a group of 6 persons! There were a lot of leftovers afterwards, but sadly we were not allowed to bring them home.  I will write about food I tasted in Washington D.C. in the next post!

What is the meaning of culture? Why studying abroad is fun!

Cultures are related to diverse traditions, practices and perspectives. It is how we approach life and its social, political, historical, economic, and environmental demands. Everyday we construct viewpoints of each other, institutions, and governments (shout out to my Global Studies professor Fall 2016! She taught my class this topic.). A few months ago in Global Studies 101 class, I learned that borders are artificial. They divide and categorize people based on common language, religion, or beliefs.  What forms a hierarchy among nation-states? Power? Determination? Foreign policy? What forms a hierarchy among peers in an American high school? Athletic skills? Good looks? Good social skills? Conformity? Academic intelligence? Cultures are part of our essential well-being. Without them, we would feel disintegrated and lack of pride in our overall community or state. Tourists flock to other nation-states to experience the life of a local in their short time there rat...

Third poem

Far away, time stands still I am stuck in deep despair The world I am in lacks thrill Bleakness floats in the air They say it's a small world The galaxy swirled in an endless and hopeless circle. By Mei L. Mackleer

My second poem

Why oil and water do not go together Why peach and love are compatible go go stop stop before I faint of lonely happiness I see the light and once again, I blow it out before the fire consumes me it is insatiable By Mei L. Mackleer

Are we dreaming or are we awake?

Hello my cupcakes! In Philosophy class, I was learning about  RenĂ© Descartes. He was the father of modern Western Philosophy. He inquired whether do we exist or not? How do we know if we are dreaming or not? That got me pondering. He said that our own senses may be deceiving us or that some sort of a genius is deceiving us from the real world. I really like the Wax Example. If we imagine a wax, we presume it to be solid and yellow. But if it is placed next to a fire, its shape transforms and the smell is noted. That tells us that the senses did not tell us that the wax is capable of many changes. Back to the question: are we dreaming? How do I know that I may not be sitting here typing this paper and that I am actually sleeping somewhere else? Well, I think in a dream, we feel like we are moving in a dream-like state where everything seems so far yet so close. It is sort of like a out of body experience where you know that you are in a dream because you see your...

Why Human Trafficking should be abolished

The world I envision is a world where women and girls are viewed for their great potential and who they choose to be. In magazines and on television, we see the majority of Caucasian women with ideal beauty and less of Polynesian or Haitian women with natural beauty. Thanks to the media, everyday women are objectified.  Whatever happened to inner beauty and inner strength? I am not saying that we should throw away our lipsticks or eyeshadow pallets. I admit that I enjoy watching makeup videos sometimes and makeup is a form of art. What I am saying is that women are not objects. Women and girls are human beings. There has been discourses over racism and/or sexism experienced in the minority communities. The one social justice that I am passionate about is human trafficking that targets women and children.  They are targeted and kidnapped for their bodies while their voices are silenced especially when they are placed in a foreign land. It’s an international issue that affe...
